Pre-Season 2020

Attention Percussionists looking to audition for Big 8 in 2020:

We are requiring ALL incoming percussion students to submit a pre-qualifying video to determine your potential for success during our full audition sequence. Information regarding this pre-qualifying video will be posted soon. Check back for more details.

At this time, we believe that Marching Chiefs activities for Fall 2020 will be held in some capacity. The University is planning on holding home football games and, therefore, we are making plans for the fall marching season.

BUT … this season will be dramatically different from past seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All potential students — new and returning — should be prepared for a very, very different season.

We will be following very strict University and State of Florida guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. Some of these guidelines include (a) all outdoor rehearsals, (b) required face masks, (c) social distancing of 6-feet (minimum) built-in to all rehearsals and performances, (d) required COVID-19 testing, and much more.

We have selected an excellent set of student leaders for the 2020 season. These dedicated young women and men will work hard to ensure that everyone has a safe, productive and enjoyable season.

MUCH more information will be coming to this website in the days ahead. Please check back often.

AROUND JULY 1: Welcome Book sent to all potential new members.

AROUND AUGUST 1: Submit audition video.

AROUND AUGUST 10: Move into Residence Halls.

AROUND AUGUST 15: Preseason Training Begins.

High School Band Day ’20

We regret to announce that our High School Band Day experience will not be available in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Florida State home football games will be held at a dramatically reduced capacity in 2020.

BUT … we will return in 2021. We hope to see you then.

FSU Band Day is open to all area high school bands. Expose your students to the world-renowned Marching Chiefs as they perform a pregame concert, during the game, and at halftime. Free admission to the game is provided to high school band students, their directors, and (in restricted quantity) official chaperones.

Over the past twenty years, tens of thousands of high school band students have enjoyed the sights and sounds of college football. We cordially invite all high school band directors to bring their students to Band Day when we return in 2021.
