Established in the 1930s, the Marching Chiefs have grown from a small group of dedicated musicians to a dynamic ensemble of more than 400 members, making it one of the largest college marching bands in the United States.
The Marching Chiefs combine traditional and contemporary marching styles, honoring the past while looking toward the future. The band only plays its own unique arrangements, custom-designed by expert arrangers to produce the famous Marching Chiefs’ “Wall of Sound.”
Recognized as the “band that never lost a halftime” by Sports Illustrated, the Chiefs perform for audiences at all home football games, select away games, and post-season bowl games. The band has also performed for audiences internationally, including the International Trade Fair in Damascus, the World Football League in London, the 75th D-Day Normandy Parade in France, and the 2024 season opener in Dublin, Ireland.
From the early days of performing at intramural games to becoming the world’s largest collegiate marching band, the Florida State University Marching Chiefs continue to leave an enduring legacy of musical excellence and tradition.
